IHC Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani also calls for contempt proceedings due to a defamation campaign

Following Justice Babar Sattar’s request, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has written to the Islamabad High Court Chief Justice asking to start contempt proceedings due to a harmful smear campaign against him on social media.

Justice Kayani has submitted his plea to IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq.

It is anticipated that a bench will be formed in response to the requests from both Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani concerning the defamatory campaigns aimed at them online.

On Monday, Justice Babar Sattar alerted the IHC chief justice to initiate contempt actions against those violating his family’s privacy by disseminating personal information, including their US residence permits, on the internet.

Sattar highlighted that social media sharing included identity and permanent residency cards of his family members.

The IHC public relations office, responding to the online campaign on Sunday, labeled it as ‘malicious and contemptuous’.

The campaign implicated the judge in concealing assets in Pakistan and the United States.

The IHC stated clearly, ‘Justice Babar Sattar has only held Pakistani nationality.’

The statement added that ‘Justice Sattar practiced law in New York and had a green card, but he resigned from his US job in 2005 and since returning to Pakistan, he has resided and worked here.’
